City and county ad valorem taxes on automobiles are paid at the same time licenses are purchased, all in one fee. New residents of Emanuel County have 30 days after establishing residency in which to purchase auto tags. Under state law liability insurance is required before registration.

Residents 18 years of age or older are eligible to register to vote. To register to vote, residents should go the Registrar's office located at 105 South Main Street in Swainsboro.
