The Pine Tree Festival is held each year on the first weekend in May. Organized in 1946 by the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club, the Pine Tree Festival is a week long event paying tribute to this area's vast forestry resources. Highlights of the event include beauty contests, auto races, golf tournament, arts & crafts, wildlife exhibits, forestry exhibits, entertainment and much more. The City of Garfield Wash Pot Festival is held each May as a joint project of the Garfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Garfield Masonic Lodge. The celebration centers around delicious foods cooked over open flames, many in authentic wash pots. Be sure to try sweet potatoes boiled in pine resin--you'll never eat a better sweet potato. Other favorites are fried chicken, barbecue, Brunswick stew, lacy corn bread, chicken & dumplings, creamed corn, butterbeans and much more. The beauty of this local flower is on full display during this day-long event in the heart of Downtown Canoochee, Ga. Held on the first Saturday in June, the festival is sponsored by the local volunteer fire department.
