The Swainsboro/Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a series of morning meetings for all Chamber members. Called "Coffee Connections," these meetings enable the Chamber Board of Directors and staff to hear directly from the Chamber's membership.
The meetings will be held three consecutive Friday mornings, October 8th, October 15th, and October 22nd. The meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will last for one hour or less. Discussions will center on the Chamber's role in the community, membership services, and the effectiveness of the Chamber in its overall mission. A survey will be presented to each member at the time.
"We will be dividing our membership into three groups and inviting them to attend one of our Friday morning sessions. It's a great way to hear from our members about the job we do and it helps us plan for the future," stated Bill Rogers, Jr., chamber president.
An invitation will be sent to each member with the date to attend.

Chamber's Industry Appreciation Golf outing is a success!

A great day was experienced by all during the annual Swainsboro/Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce and Joint Development Authorities' Industry Appreciation Golf Tournament. Held Thursday, September 23rd, 104 golfers and seven industries enjoyed the outing under bright sunshine and warm weather. This marked another year of tremendous support for the tournament since its inception in 1994.
Following registration and lunch by Domino's Pizza, Chamber President Kenny Griffin and Golf Rules Committee Member Peyton Frye welcomed golfers and industry participants.
Atkinson's took top honors for the day when Lash Atkinson, Kris Riner, Clay Lannigan and Bubba Mathern posted a 16-under to take the Championship Flight.
Taking second and third place in the Championship Flight with scores of 14 under and 13 under, were Mark Haddock, Mac Chappell, Charlie Chappell and Mark Jordan representing Yeoman's Chiropractic while Bill Simmons, Butch Parrish, Minton Hester and Hiller Spann represented the Citizens Bank.
Thompson Outdoor Center team of Keith Thompson, Eddie Jordan, Joe Nasworthy, and Talmadge Nasworthy took 1st Flight honors with a 9-under round. Southeastern Technical College and Durden Bank teams took second and third places in the 1st flight category.
Georgia Power Company took the 2nd Flight top spot with a 3-under score. Playing for Georgia Power were Kenny Griffin, Randy Mayfield, Tim Salter, and Steve Cordell. Alltel and Emanuel Medical Center took second and third place in the 2nd Flight category.
Clay Lannigan won the "longest drive in the fairway," while Al Lawson took top honors for "closest to the pin."
Following golf, door prizes were given away, along with prizes for the winning teams.    The group then enjoyed barbecue cooked by Papa Buck's Barbeque. The lunch and barbecue were sponsored by the Forest-Blade Publishing Company.
"We had a great day today with exciting golf. This tournament is one of our ways of thanking our local industries for their commitment to our county," stated Chamber Golf Committee Chairman Clay Hall.
Chamber golf committee members also include DeAnna Moore, Wade Johnson, Jill Collins, Heather Jones, Doug Brown, Peyton Frye, Donna Brinson, Shanna Taylor and Bill Rogers Jr.
Regional leadership program is announced

The Georgia Academy of Economic Development will offer a spring 2011 Economic & Leadership Development Program.
Sponsored by the Department of Community Affairs, the Region 9 Academy will be held in Vidalia, Ga., at the Center for Economic Development.
The program calls for 4 one-day sessions over a 4-month period. Tuition is $195. Dates selected for the program are February 24, March 31, April 28and May 26.
Interested candidates should contact the Swainsboro/Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce or Tina Hutcheson, Development Specialist, Georgia Department of Community Affairs, at 478-278-9434.
The program is ideal for chamber members, newly elected public officials, economic developers, or those interested in learning more about how local government works.
This marks the twelfth year for the Academy. Nearly 300 candidates have completed the Academy course work.
Emanuel is a "Camera-Ready" Community!

The Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office will announce Emanuel County's designation as a "camera-ready" community in special ceremonies in Atlanta on Thursday, October 7th. Only 16 counties in Georgia will have such designation.
The designation has been an "on-going project" of the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce. Over the last several months, the Chamber staff has been downloading pictures of places and scenes in Emanuel County that might entice the film industry to choose Emanuel County as a possible site for motion pictures or documentaries.
"This designation is no guarantee a film company might choose Emanuel County for a movie, but you never know," stated Chamber President Bill Rogers. "Typically, film companies spend vast amounts of money to make movies and hire extras. They spend money on hotels, meals, and the like. It just makes good business sense to attract these folks to Georgia, and perhaps Emanuel County," he added.
Pictures include settings at Geo. L. Smith State Park, Ohoopee River, Ogeechee River, McKinney's Pond, Coleman's Lake, historic homes and farms and other notable sites.
The ceremonies will take place at Georgia's newest film production facilities at EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Atlanta.

Thanks Nordson!!!

Carol Donaldson, Sunshine House Director, accepted the grant and thanked Nordson for their community spirit and involvement.
