Twin City, Ga. is located just 12 miles southeast of Swainsboro. Twin City is the home of George L. Smith State Park and the nearly 200-year old Rountree Cabin. Stillmore, Ga. is located approximately 17 miles southeast of Swainsboro. Today, it is the location of Crider Poultry one of Emanuel County's largest industries. The town has a mayor/city council and 790 inhabitants. It is the home of David Emanuel Academy, a private school serving Emanuel and Candler Counties. During its heyday in the late 1800s, Stillmore was a railroad-lumber boomtown; it boasted the finest hotels in this section of Georgia; and it was the shopping, social, sports and education center. Adrian, GA. is located 19 miles west of Swainsboro on U.S. 80. A unique characteristic of Adrian is the "Z" shaped county line that separates Emanuel and Johnson counties which runs through the heart of downtown Adrian. This feature was created in a land dispute some 150 years ago. A mayor and city council serve a population of 579 people. Adrian School of Performing Arts is the center of the town's activities with students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Even though there is no record of the incorporation, the City of Oak Park owes its existence to Hansel R. Williamson, a pioneer settler and large land owner in the area. Mr. Williamson set aside 26 acres of his estate to be sold as home and business sites for the town. He gave land for four churches, a school, depot and the railroad right-of-way. With a population of 366 people, Oak Park is served by a mayor and city council. The City of Garfield has the designation of being named after President James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States. Just 15 months after the President's assassination, the city's name appears on state maps in 1883. For the last 60 years, pecans and pecan candies have been the major enterprise in Garfield. Atkinson Pecan and Atkinson Candies are the city's two largest employers. Garfield has a population of 152 people and is served by a mayor and city council. It is the home of the annual Wash Pot Festival held the third Saturday in May. Highlights of the festival include local favorite foods cooked in iron pots over wood embers, a parade, old cars and trucks, bands, floats and arts and crafts. Located approximately 11 miles northeast of Swainsboro on Ga. Hwy 56, Summertown, Ga. was incorporated in 1906. The town received its name from the fact that in its earliest days-- it was in fact a "summer town." Early settlers in the area, particularly from Midville and and areas near the Ogeechee River, built summer homes there in order to escape the malaria-infested mosquitoes of the lowland areas. Chartered in 1903, The City Of Nunez was named for a member of one of the more prominent pioneer families of the area. Early records of the city have been misplaced or lost and much of the early history has been preserved only by word of mouth. Today, the City of Nunez has a population of 131 people.
